Ask Petite Chou - colored shimmery eyeliners

July 4th, 2008

Dear MPC,

I was just wondering if you’ve used those colored eyeliners, especially ones with sparkles. I don’t want to use the heavy black liners in the summer. I want something colorful.

shiseidoeyeliner.jpg Any question about eyeliners kinda stumps me, Eva. As some of you know I don’t wear eyeliners regularly because it’s just so difficult to line my Asian eyes, especially one of them has no crease. However I’m a big fan of eyeliners and my friend T. ALWAYS tells me that I should wear it and that I just need more practice. Honestly I really want to try on those pretty colorful eyeliners out there. Shiseido has some of the most beautiful shades (their eyeshadows too, gorgeous!), specifically The Makeup Eyeliner Pencil Duo ($21). Double tipped in contrasting colors, one pearly and one dark, this innovative pencil doubles as a shimmery highlighter and smokey eyeliner to define eyes. It delivers clear, intense color and is smudge-proof! The other day I was just flipping through some Asian fashion magazines, the shimmery eyeliners are so popular in Asia. They make the eye appear twice as big and glisten so brightly. Some girls even look like they have tears in their eyes, kind of an innocent helpless look, I guess this could be good or bad depending on what you like, lol. But either way, it’s pretty amazing what these shimmery eyeliners can do. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil 1999 ($16) is another favorite among many beauty addicts, it’s more creamy so it goes on sooooo easily and great for blending. But you gotta blend fast ’cause it dries to a long-last finish in 30 seconds. Anyone has had experience with colorful eyeliners? Please share! And also, if you use it, how do you adjust your eyeshadow? I’m very curious about that. I’d probably just put a thin layer of highlighting shadow on and put on one coat mascara and let the eyeliners do all the work since we want to get away from the heavy eye makeup in the heat of summer.
