Paula’ Choice 10% off for January

January 20th, 2009

I mentioned before how big of a fan I am of Paula Begoun’s books on cosmetics and skincare review and her skincare line Paula’s Choice. I am a completely royal customer. So as soon as I found out that her website is having a 10% off all orders for the month of January, I took advantage of it and ordered some of my staples and a few new products to try.

I needed a new bottle of her exfoliating Beta Hydroxy Acid lotion. It’s really the only thing that can gently exfoliates my oily pores without irritating and making my skin flaky in the winter. But since Exfoliating 2% BHA Lotion is unavailable at the moment, I decided to get the other similar option, Exfoliating 2% BHA Liquid ($18.95, $17.06), the thinner version that works like a toner. It works just as great! I see this one as even a better option for the summer because it’s so refreshing and light-weight. In the winter, I still need to put on some moisturizer afterwards. I strongly recommend this as long as you don’t have very dry skin. Remember darlings, we still need to exfoliate diligently in the winter, but stay away from harsh scrubs, they are too hard on the skin.

While we are talking about exfoliation, I decided to try the Exfoliating Treatment ($9.95 $4.98 $4.46), which IS a scrub for rough areas like the knees, elbows, and heels. And believe it or not, it’s also recommended for exfoliating chapped lips! Just rub a tiny amount onto lips or other areas of dryness; keep rubbing until product balls up starts to flake off, taking excess dead skin with it. Its creamy rich texture feels great on the skin.

I go through tubes of sunscreen at a fast rate even in the winter. I go with SPF 15 instead of SPF 30 or higher to make it easier on the skin (besides a high SPF is kind of an overkill unless you are on the ski slopes). I alternate among some of the favorites like Olay Regenerist UV Defense Regenerating Lotion SPF 15 (that Paula totally recommends) and Paula’s Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion SPF 15 ($20.95 $18.86). Her sunscreen really lives up to the expectations that it is mattifying and full of potent antioxidants, the ideal day-cream for somebody with oily skin.

Despite having oily skin, the skin around my eyes gets really dry half day through in the office. Does anybody have this problem? When I go to the washroom, I look in the mirror squinting my eyes and, horror! I see fine lines! I use this Hydrating Treatment Cream ($18.95 $17.06) as eye cream. I dab some on immediately and breath a sign of relief. If you have dry skin all over, then this will work beautifully for you as it is designed for dry skin. It contains emollients, antioxidants, natural moisturizing factors, and water-binding agents, all things to keep the skin well-hydrated.

You know how fussy I am about having SPF in my lipstick or lip gloss, then I saw this Sheer Cream Lipstick SPF 15 ($10.95 $5.48 $4.93) on sale for half price, I had to pick one up. Color selections are limited, only two are left. I picked up the Tropical, which is a very sheer pink-ish coral color (not as pictured). It’s very pretty, goes on so sheer and smooth. Hard to believe it’s a lipstick. And I wear it happily knowing it’s protecting my lips from the sun AND the harmful rays that are being reflected from the snow.
