NYC Fashion Week – some faves so far

I miss summer already. And looking at all the 2012 Spring shows makes me miss it even more!

Anna Sui collection is so sex-kitten-ish. She’s always one of my faves.

On the other spectrum, Tibi has gone very minimalistic, which I love! But the colors are soooo pretty.

3.1 Phillip Lim has a similar creamy/pastel color theme going too among the muted shades. But more importantly, the interesting construction of the clothes are very unique.

Nanette Lepore never disappoints with her ultra-feminine pieces. The bags and shoes are so colorful!

Marchesa‘s gowns are always so regal and fairytale-like.

Oscar de la Renta…absolutely gorgeous and decadent. I die for the lace dresses! What else do you expect from the master right?

Victoria Beckham Fall 2010

Amongst all the collections that I like so far, I have to say that I love Victoria Beckham’s! Her dresses are truly impressive and beautiful. From Style.com: “Victoria Beckham started her presentation by personally greeting each and every one of the 25 or so editors and retailers assembled in the Upper East Side town house to see it. Most designers, of course, prefer to hide out backstage. “When does that ever happen?” someone asked after shaking hands with her. As has become Beckham’s style over the last three seasons, she narrated as the models glided out in her dresses, discussing fabrics, color, cut, and construction. She sounded like such a pro, you almost forgot that she was once a pop superstar, until, pointing out a buff-colored draped silk jersey gown with a grosgrain ribbon sashed around the asymmetrical bodice, she told us, “I’m going to wear this one to the Oscars.” A cloudlike gazar confection with couture-esque hand-tucking and a blurred pixel print lifted from the Dick Tracy comic came with another anecdote, this one about what a nightmare it was to put together.

Well, all the hard work paid off; there wasn’t one bad dress in the bunch. The best of her signature hourglass sheaths came in a brilliant emerald stretch felt for day, and for evening in an antique gold metallic jacquard with an asymmetrical neckline. Where she pushed herself was with draping and looser-fitting shape—relatively speaking, of course. A strapless sapphire double-crepe column gown with a tuck at the bust and a draped back was as Martha Graham as things got. More often Beckham married the fluid with the structured, as she did with one fabulous dress that was nude silk jersey on top and densely ribbed nude jersey below the waist. The most exciting development, though, was a wool crepe long-sleeve tunic dress. Cut on the bias so that it felt like wearing an oversize sweater—or so Beckham described it—the frock had an everyday kind of sexiness that will win her a whole new class of fans.”

Emanuel Ungaro Spring 2010

Have you seen the French label Emanuel Ungaro Spring 2010 show? With all the hoopla about Lindsey Lohan being hired as Emanuel Ungaro’s artistic advisor (what the heck does such a person do anyway?), it’s definitely generating more buzz for the label. I certainly didn’t pay attention to the label before. I’m looking at the colleciton and I’m kinda underwhelmed. The silhouettes are of the ubiquitous body-con variety. The prints and details are pretty simple. I do like the color palette, the hot pink dresses look pretty sexy. I don’t get the fur stoles for spring though. NYTimes has a hilarious review about it, A Controversial Debut for Lohan in Paris. It sums it up nicely. “Celebrity fashion designers have, until now, been a mostly American phenomenon, with lines targeted to department stores under labels by Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani and Justin Timberlake, among many others. But Ms. Lohan’s arrival at a 45-year-old Paris house known for $1,500 dresses and a tradition of couture craftsmanship is entirely different, something akin to a McDonald’s fry cook taking the reins of a three-star Michelin restaurant.” Lol.

Fashion Week – Betsey Johnson, Badgley Mischka, Max Azria, Halston

Betsey Johnson’s one of my all-time favorites so of course I totally loved the collection. Badgely Mischka always always makes gowns to die for, something a girl can always dream of wearing for that special day. Love Max Azria’s utter sophistication and the black, white, grey, and cream color palette. And Halston’s had such an ethereal feel, the dresses look like they were just floating in air, just breathtaking.

So many amazing shows from yesterday and today…I don’t know which ones I like the most! I always like Anna Sui’s whacky whimsical school-girlie designs and Phillip Lim’s collection seems extra clean and crisp. And of course the big guns like Michael Kors and Oscar de la Renta are always inspiring to watch.

These dresses from Jill Stuart aren’t evening gowns, but I’ve always loved the incredibly delicate girly dresses from Jill Stuart that require little accessories to make them shine. And I love that she paired them with cool as hell ankle boots.
