Erin Fetherston, Nicole Miller, Douglas Hannant, and Vera Wang Lavender Label
Erin Fetherston - some of the looks are a little witch-y for me, I don’t know, maybe it’s the models. The floor-sweeping dresses are beautiful though.

Nicole Miller - apparently her inspiration came from the brave warrior Joan of Arc. You can really see some strong lines and structures here. The pleasted silk dress does look a bit like armor, yet it also looks soft and flowy. I love the jackets and coats the best, very cutting-edge.

Douglas Hannant - very glamorous, old-world elegance here. I love the beautiful body-hugging gowns and the ultra-feminine pencil skirtsuits. I see movie stars and socialites wearing these soon.

Vera Wang Lavender Lable - Vera Wang’s first-ever runway show for her lower-priced Lavender Label collection. The show took place in a very old-world town house restaurant called Bobo, which suited perfectly for the show. Lots of tweed skirtsuits and silk blouses with touches of fur. The accessories are the ever classic long antique pearl necklaces, berets and skinny belts.

So the first day of shows is over.
Here are photos from some of the shows thanks to Coutorture!
BCBG Max Azria - always a favorite of mine, love the structured dresses and the emphasis on the waist, belts on every outfit, but the belts are softer and quieter. Are the wide shiny patent metallic belts going away?

Check the entire BCBG Max Azria show here
Jason Wu - another favorite of mine. It’s very 50’s, super feminine and elegant. No short dresses here.

Rag & Bone - all black, brown, grey, and navy, not a bright color in sight. Very clean silhouettes. Again cinched waists. Love the tweed suit dress.

Filed under Fashion Shows | Comment (0)FW - Milly, Diane Von Furstenberg, Zac Posen, Richard Chai
Milly - interesting that there are quite a few turbans in the show. I wonder if this trend really will stick around or rather, take off, next year, considering it wanted to this year but I didn’t see many people adopting it. I really like Milly’s designer Michelle Smith’s dress when she came out in the end. Very feminine shape and pretty print.
Diane Von Furstenberg - lots of ethnic inspired prints and vibrant colors. Like what NY Times’ Cathy Horyn said, “There was indeed a lot of uncomplicated love in this show — for those caftans and long halter dresses that Ms. Von Furstenberg does better than anyone else, and for a smart variation on her signature wrap dress, now in khaki silk shantung.”
Zac Posen - What do you think of Zac Posen’s collection? The gowns are quite “elaborate”, aren’t they? I love LOVE the bags!!
Richard Chai - lots of menswear elements, incredibly wide-legged pants (look awesome on the models), extra-long blazers, oversize grey sweaters, very edgy but go so wel with feminine blouses, dresses and skirts.
Filed under Fashion Shows | Comment (0)FW - Micheal Kors, Peter Som, Rebecca Taylor, Temperley London
Micheal Kors - always one of my favorites every season. Love the big hats!
Peter Som - simple and elegant, very much like his usual collections. The models look kinda scary and deathly lol.
Rebecca Taylor - feminine and sexy with lots of ruffles, tight skirts, and shimmery dresses.
Temperley London - love the dress and boot combo.
Filed under Fashion Shows | Comment (0)FW - Atil Kutoglu, Charles Nolan, and Vena Cava
Atil Kutoglu — Beautiful long dresses, wide-leg pants, cropped jackets, pencil skirts (hello sexy corporate lady!), bikinis, big brimmed hats. “Launched in 1992, Kutoglu’s label stands for exotic, richly textured clothes with a Turkish flavor. That translates into lots of tunic necklines, genie pants, and spice-market colors. But there are always modern twists, such as the merging of luxe materials with funkier ones—leather with rich brocades, denim with mousseline and velvet. The designer, although born in Turkey, is based in Istanbul, and he has become a favorite among European royalty.” (nymag.com)
Charles Nolan — such whimsical designs, looks like a bunch of kids going to the prom or tea parties, so cute! Love the pearl necklaces and gold heels, and colorful books and binders as accessories. I don’t know if some of the pieces will be worn by a lot of “normal” people, like the pink shorts paired with a tuxedo jacket on the cute male model.

Vena Cava - interesting presentation. There were some funny props the model carried or wore, like the giant cardboard cutouts of an old-school camera and a cell phone. some of the cuts were a little avant-garde. I like the flowy dresses and blouses. The floor length skirts were a little boring for me though.
Filed under Fashion Shows | Comment (0)FW - Miss Sixty, Badgley Mischka, Bill Blass, and Abaeté
Miss Sixty — Check out the gigantic bag from Miss Sixty. It’s totally wild! I wanna be a Miss Sixty girl!!
Badgley Mischka — Everything’s pretty and all, but it doesn’t really jump at you. You see a lot of the elements we saw this past spring and summer. Guess some are strong enough that the designer thinks they will carry into next year.
Bill Blass — Gorgeous in the classic Bill Blass way. But I wish the models had walked the runway and not just stood there. The dresses are exquisite, paired with models’ old Hollywood glmamour hair and makeup.
Abaeté — very chic in that vacationing in Brazil kind of the feeling. Love the giant flower broches. Again you can see the ’40s glamour influence.

Thanks to our own Julie of the Coutorture Network and teamsugar, I’ll be able to share with you tons of coverage from the Fashion Week for Spring 2008 — videos, interviews and photos. Enjoy!
Let’s start off with the BCBG Max Azria show. LOVE it! I’m a big fan of BCBG, it rarely disappoints. This time is no exception, beautiful flowy dresses and blouses that shows off a woman’s feminine curves.
And young and talented designer Jason Wu’s collection and Julie’s interview with him. What do you think of his clothes? Quite girly, a litte kitten-ish and schoolgirl-ish, very sexy.
And here are a slide show of Toni Maticevski’s show. For those of you who aren’t too familiar with this young Melbourne-based designer, he “studied fashion at RMIT University graduating with First Class Honours. After graduating he won a Fashion Group International Award resulting in a placement with Donna Karen in New York. Maticevski shockingly turned down an extended position at Donna Karen, deeming the power house creatively draining. Maticevski left for Paris to work two seasons at Cerruti. Maticevski returned to Melbourne in 1998 to launch his own label, and was awarded the Melbourne Fashion Festival New Designer Award in 2002″ (wikipedia.org). I’m loving the elaborate gowns in this show. They are just exquisite.
More stuff to come!

Jessica Simpson unveiled her swimsuit collection in Miami. What do you think of her collection? Plenty of skimpy suits and hot models.

Looking at all the restort collections makes me want to escape to exotic place for a year long vacation. Carolina Herrera’s is my favorite. The floaty fabrics and floral prints take me to a beautiful french and chateau and a vineyard. The whole collection exudes the natural at-ease elegance of a lady.
Gucci’s was my other favorite. It’s got a completely different tone. It is cooly chic. I’d wear it to Prague or Moscow.
