It feels like it’s been ages since I wore something in denim last time. I miss my skinnies and shorts like crazy. It makes me sad that I have to miss this summer’s hot distressed denim trend, especially the ripped, torn and vintage-washed boyfriend shorts. They are effortless cool and not overtly sexy. I don’t like denim shorts that are too short and too tight. I’d definitely feel more comfortable in these boyfriend shorts.

Roomy shorts

I’m seeing a lot of pleated loose shorts with waist ties. They look so nonchalantly chic and super comfortable. And if they have feminine details like ruffle-y edges, buttons and interesting prints, all the better to play up pretty blouses or cool t-shirts. Do you like the extra roominess which creates volume around the hips? I guess you just have to try them on and see. If you have narrow hips, you can definitely pull them off.

Bermuda shorts time

Bermuda shorts are a staple for me in the summer. I just find them so easy to wear and make me look long and lean, great for work. Every year I like to update my shorts collection. Gap and Old Navy are my go-to stores to get most of them. I’m going to get some of these in neutral colors and maybe one pair in a bright shade. And they are on sale!

Madewell Boilersuit Romper

Shopbop’s first denim collaboration ever is with Madewell, J. Crew’s younger sister. The collaboration is a limited edition, heritage-inspired denim collection available exclusively through shopbop and at select Madewell boutiques and madewell1937.com.

What’s it like? Picture every favorite piece you’ve worn to shreds over the years and you start to get the idea: think spot-on skinnies and slouchy boyfriends, thigh-grazing minis and tailored jean jackets. My favorite piece is this Boilersuit Romper. As you could probably tell, I was never a big advocate of the jumpsuit from the lack of posts on them, as they are NOT easy to wear, both functionally and aesthetically. But this one seems more friendly. The dark stiff denim really subtracts the potential sloppiness.

I need to go to Target

I’d imagine if I lived in the States, I’d love Target for sure. Every time a designer for Go International line comes out, I want to cross the border and make a day of shopping at Target. I still haven’t done that. Why can’t Target ship to Canada?? Now everybody’s going gaga over Richard Chai for Target. I gotta agree there is some really awesome stuff there, I’m sooooo tempted to drive to Target in Buffalo this weekend! I especially love the preppy looks.

What to wear with stripe bermuda shorts?

Lia Kes Striped Long Bermuda Shorts $174 on sale for $56 at The Hip Chick. I’m debating if I should get these bermuda shorts. You know I’ve been on a roll with bermuda shorts lately, but all the ones I bought are either of solid colors or thin pin-strips. I’m liking these, but do they look too “stripey” to you? What would you wear on the top? I don’t necessarily want to go for the nautical look, just a look that’s appropriate for work. I’m thinking maybe ruffle-y tops in rich shades like plum purple or pomegranate red?

I could definitely get by this summer with these shorts

The heat is sweltering and I’m loving it. I can’t believe I just said it, especially we don’t even have air conditioning in our new house yet. But I really don’t mind it. I think it might be because the memory of the brutal winter is still not that distant. I’m getting on a shorts binge now because of the lovely heat.

Radcliffe Fencing Short $175 $53. These shorts look quite good, despite their sort of high-waisted-ness. Good thing they aren’t too high or too tight, unlike these, which are just terrible. And the buttons are a nice touch.

I’m actually a shorts fan, you probably wouldn’t know it since I wear so many dresses and skirts, but I am in the summer. I like tailored slim cut bermuda shorts for work and short shorts for fun weekend activies. I’m partial to ones that have wide cuffs, they make my legs look skinny . I’m also warming up to sailor shorts, as long as they aren’t too tight and too high-waisted.

Leather gloves make every outfit better

I was browsing Maxstudio.com’s always stylish lookbook and I noticed so many of the outfits are punctuated with a pair of leather gloves. This is such a simple and chic way to make an outfit pop. Now I really really want a pair of leather gloves, preferably long enough to reach half way on my forearm. Strangely, Maxstudio doesn’t offer the gloves they used in the pictures. So I found this perfect pair at Nordstrom, elbow length Ruched Leather Gloves cut from supple nappa leather and lined with soft silk ($135). They will go perfect with any of these casual or dressy outfits.
