Our anniversary…and can’t wait for Thanksgiving!

October 8th, 2008

I can’t wait till the long weekend is here (Thanksgiving long weekend for us Canucks). I love the days around Thanksgiving because we also celebrate our wedding anniversary :D. We got married on a beautiful autumn day on the Thanksgiving long weekend two years ago (October 7, 2006). Gosh, it feels like we just celebrated our 1st anniversary. I guess we are no longer newly weds, lol. We are still same the goofy big kids after all these years we’ve been together. This year our gift to each other will be a vacation that we want to go in January (to get away from the long winter of Canada!) to someplace tropical for a second honeymoon. Since my guy had to leave for a business trip on the day of our anniversary, we decided to celebrate on the day before. We kept it simple and fun. We went Halloween costume shopping (our annual ritual). My guy wants to be Leon from the Resident Evil games. He has most pieces of his costume ready, the leather jacket, the gun, the holster, etc. Now only the hair is left. Leon has flowy piece-y anime hair, and my guy’s hair is cut super short. We had tons of good laughs as he tried on some wacky wigs. No luck though, he’ll have to keep looking. I want to be a vampire again like last year. I already have the demon-eye contacts and a pair of fangs. I haven’t figured out what goes on the body yet. After that we stuffed our faces with sushi and went home to binge on one of our favorite shows at the moment, Supernatural (ghosts, demons, zombies, and magic make excellent entertainment. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are eye candy too). Then I helped him pack. I really enjoy packing for my guy as one of my wife-y duties, hehe. It was a perfect day just how I like it, each other’s company and lots of laughter.
This is what I wore for a casual night out. I got this silk dress on ebay ’cause I thought the little lady in the red gown was just too adorable. I’m pretty sure the “girl-in-a-dress” design is mimicked from a designer top, I vaguely recall Lanvin if I’m not mistaken (will try to find a picture), but meh. It looked too cute not for me to get it.

So cold!

October 3rd, 2008

It’s freezing today even for autumn, and I’m having a hard time letting go of summer. I’m trying to get more wear out of my navy Gap cuffed tab-waist shorts (got them on sale for $10 in the store, it’s $19 on the website :). So layering is the way to go if you like me want to still wear some of your summer pieces into fall.

Can’t say no to ruffles

September 24th, 2008

I found this ruffle blouse/mini-dress on eBay after seeing it in a Korean magazine. It also reminded me of an Alice + Olivia mini-dress I loved in the summer (can’t find it on the net now). The ruffle panels run the entire length, so I was debating whether it was too ruffle-y. I decided that it’s not for me, lol. And the color is just so pretty.

Hard to let go of summer

September 13th, 2008

I’m kind of in denial about summer being done.  I was sorting my closet earlier, swapping out most of my summer clothes for fall ones.  But today’s surprisingly hot and humid.   I found this brand new mini-dress I’ve never worn all summer.  I’m wearing it to a BBQ at a friend’s place, one of the last BBQs of the season :(.

Taking a little breather

August 22nd, 2008

I’m off to the beautiful Newfoundland, Canada, for a few days. It will be a refreshing change of pace by the ocean and forests. My guy’s grandmother turning 90(!) years old. So we are having a birthday/family reunion. I’m going to give this pink ballerina-style BCBG Max Azaria dress a whirl before the summer’s over, it’s been sitting in my closet for too long.

More reason to go thrifting more often

July 25th, 2008

TGIF everybody! :) So happy it’s finally Friday, and when I got home there was a surprise waiting for me. It was this dress my cousin scored at a vintage shop. She decided the color wasn’t for her so she sent it to me! Thanks A! It’s the softest jersey and I love the peachy pink color, and it’s in perfect condition. The fit is pretty good, although my boobs look kinda weird, I’m probably wearing the wrong bra. Overall, it’s a great find and I can’t believe my cousin is giving it to me! Why can’t I find anything nearly as pretty when I go thrifting? Once again I’m inspired to go this weekend!

My green sandals

June 20th, 2008

My mint green elastic strap sandals are here :). They give just enough pop to my simple outfit.  It’s my favorite shade of green.  And with the chunky heels they are so comfortable like you wouldn’t believe. Love ‘em!

Ruffles galore

May 30th, 2008

Wearing my new Pleated Romper Dress today. What can I say, I can’t get enough of the ruffles. It was the pleated ruffles that drew me in. Timesonline.co.uk wants to remind us ruffle-lovers — Frill seekers: proceed with caution - Wear ruffles judiciously, or you risk looking like an extra in Carmen. It says to use tough accessories such as gladiator sandals to harden the look. It’s good advice but doesn’t mean I’m going to be less ruffle-obsessed, which extends to bikinis too! Wearing structured tailored pieces like wide-leg trousers, cuffed shorts, vests with ruffles works great too.

I love bows

May 23rd, 2008

Clearly you can tell I’m a sucker for bows. The last two days plus today I’ve been wearing something that has a bow on it. Even my best friend at work J. has picked up on it. It’s funny, it’s not like the bows just started appearing yesterday, a lot of people are probably sick of it by now, but I’m still letting my girliness get the best of me.

This Ribbon Accent Highwaist Dress was a great buy (dirt cheap too). J. said I looked quite corporate-appropriate (i.e. too well-dressed for our work, lol). I had an appointment with our real estate lawyer and I was glad I looked quite professional.

. I got this one on eBay. I like it that the bow is on the back so the dress doesn’t look too cutesy from the front. The bow was actually crooked when I got it. I tried to sew it straight, I don’t think I did a good job. Meh, my hair would half cover it anyway.

Also got this one on eBay. It’s an asymmetrical cut, sorta looks like a giant handkerchief. I like the way it flounces when I walk and turn. My guy teases me about how I like clothes that are shapeless and have big movements, lol. Well, it’s true :).

Chiffon print dress

May 14th, 2008

This is the latest addition to my chiffon dress collection, Chiffon Print Dress. I wish I had gotten the red one too since it was only $28. It turned out to be quite see-through (on the website it didn’t look see-through at all, I figured out that they must’ve layered another dress underneath it), so I put a lace skirt underneath to hide my underwear and give it a little bit more weight and body.

Sometimes I just want a funky bag

May 1st, 2008

I was jonsing for a new funky bright-colored handbag for the summer. This Mikko Patent Spai Bag totally reminded me of Marni’s handbag, but I wasn’t about to break my bank for a Marni’s bag yet, so this one was perfect, it’s only $78. It’s super roomy, it can hold everything I need in a day and an extra pair of shoes. It also comes with a shoulder strap. I also wanted the purple one, but I decided on the cheery yellow shade instead. When I asked my guy “do you like my new bag?”, he gave me a puzzled look and said “errr, yes, it’s very funky.” Lol. Guys they will never understand.

If I can’t have Marc…

April 29th, 2008

Marc by Marc Jacobs Alessandra Shantung Dress …then perhaps I can have something similar. I’ve been lusting after this Marc by Marc Jacobs Alessandra Shantung Dress ($428) forever. It’s adorable beyond words. I’m a sucker for big bows. But look what I found at Yesstyle, this look-alike for only $55 :D. I just have no idea how to tie the pretty bow like in the picture. Mine looks all screwed up. I really need a lesson on tying a proper bow!

Second-hand shopping is hard work…

April 21st, 2008

but very enjoyable. I went second-handing on Saturday, I didn’t score big. I know it’s partly my own fault ’cause I don’t have the patience to comb the racks. I did found this oversize John Hort handmade leather clutch with a gold shoulder chain at Goodwill. John Hort was a handmade handbag brand from Vancouver, Canada in the 60s. I wish I knew more about the label. Ya know the metal-chained clutches have come back, I’ve seen lots at the mall, but I wanted to get a second-hand one. This one is still in excellent condition. It’s pretty roomy inside and has two divided compartments that are expandable, much more practical than all my other clutches.

After going to the second-hand stores, I wasn’t ready to go home yet so I hit the mall for a few frivolous buys. I found these peep-toe slingbacks at Costa Blanca. I wasn’t looking for shoes, but they are super comfy so I had to get them.

My Little White Dress

April 19th, 2008

Ah it is a glorious day today. It’s sunny and warm, I decided to wear white head-to-toe, so I put on my new ruffle-y little white dress (sorry about the grainy pictures, my camera died again, so I had to use my BlackBerry to take the pictures). I think the old school of thought is you are not supposed to white until Memorial Day, right? Who cares about that silly rule! I’m in a great mood today, so I only should dress accordingly. I’m going to go out to lunch and then hit the second-hand shops. Haven’t done that in a long time!

Bare legs!

March 31st, 2008

Well, the temperature has finally climbed above 0 Celsius today (although it’s raining so it’s still cold and wet), I badly wanted to wear my new Belted Pumpkin Skirt (silly name, lol). I decided to ditch my tights ’cause none of them looked right with the skirt.   Goodness, my legs haven’t seen the light of day forever!  All morning girls at work were asking if I was cold, lol.   Good thing the skirt is this soft thin tweed material so it’s not too flimsy,  But to be quite honest, I do feel a little timid now that I have to venture outside to get lunch :(
